The Centre for Social Development is a Best Practice Early Childhood Development (ECD) organisation based in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape. The organisation has been supported by the Momentum Fund since 2001 with the most recent grant being R172 000 in order to train 40 ECD Practitioners at level 4.
The organisation wanted to find a way to thank Momentum for their continued support that would be useful and meaningful. They asked for a range of branded Momentum paraphernalia and got a talented Rhodes Journalism Student to take photos of children at the projects. The Centre for Social Development has a long relationship with this student who takes many photographs for them, which are sold and the proceeds go to the organisation.
The Foundation considers support for non-profit organisations and institutions working towards the development and empowerment of the broader community. It focuses on areas such as education, job creation, skills development, primary health care, safe community initiatives, arts and culture, environment and community care programmes. Appeals for funding are considered regularly throughout the year. To see if your organisation qualifies please see the FirstRand Foundation Funding Application Guidelines on the About Us page.
Building on the significant existing commitments to social investment by FirstRand Group Companies, the FirstRand Foundation was established in 1999 to give greater purpose and cohesion to this work.
